LAVILLA: LIFT EV’RY VOICE & SING HERITAGE TRAIL

Visitors are invited to explore one of Jacksonville’s most historically significant neighborhoods. Established in 1866, LaVilla became a nationally recognized center of African American culture, music, business, and civil rights, while also home to a diverse community that included Cuban, Syrian, Greek, Jewish, Chinese, and other immigrant families. This self-guided trail connects 22 historic sites across the neighborhood, sharing stories of artists, leaders, institutions, and everyday people who shaped Jacksonville and the nation. Inspired by the birthplace of Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, the trail celebrates LaVilla’s resilience, creativity, and enduring legacy while inviting visitors to experience its rich history and ongoing revival.
